Co sign Large Pro and Nas should have dropped more
Nas is such a mixed bag across his lps, he has done so many great songs though and isn't afraid to take risks with concepts
I have always been a fan but his lps are hit and miss
Sometimes the guy is so effortlessly poetic
I can't really see what this argument is about

I read something recently where the person said that if you try to please everyone in the audience, you're playing it safe, and the end result will be generic. Taking risks is what sets you apart, for better or for worse. In this thread, I'm saying I'm not a fan of a lot of the risks NaS takes, but I guess his bravery for taking those risks at all is commendable.

Bad shock thread title tho. Nas has consistently stayed sharp on the mic throughout his career. Someone said it before. He’s your favorite rappers favorite rapper.
I will admit there are a few albums of his that suffer greatly from terrible beats.
Yes. I understand that beats are probably most important to making a good album.
Nas is kinda great.

I think our relationships with art/artists is complicated, and even moreso with complicated artists like NaS (re: he's one of the best, but has a lot of bad work). The day I created this thread, I thought he sucked, tomorrow I'll call him the goat, haha. I'm just trying to lean away from the fawning that a lot of people default to with NaS -- saying he's one of the best ever feels like an oversimplification at best, and just false at worse -- and lean more into the fact that my feelings about this guy's music are complicated and always changing. Same goes for Jay-Z, but he's kind of boring to talk about, comparatively.
Anyway, discourse went well, and made me think more about it.

88 Got me listening to some NaS today. Hoping some of you haven't heard this track... I bought this CD compilation from Landspeed Records back in the day. I'm not sure if this track was ever released otherwise. The production credits were never listed so it's always been a mystery to me (even though it seems obvious now)...just found out it was produced by Dr. Dre.
