They rap like they're watching pretentious art films on mute with the subtitles on and just taking bits of dialogue and then making it rhyme.

I really don't see how it's hard to at least grasp the thread of what woods and elucid are talking about on haram unless you literally aren't willing to put the smallest amount of effort in. It's probably the most accessible out of any album they've ever put out. If people don't want to put the time and effort in I get that argument (it's music not a book, it's entertainment, it's supposed to be fun) but takes like these always end up coming across as more pretentious than any album i've ever heard lol.

Yeah, uh Fortification, falling away from spaces that don't serve A sacred purge, extracted herbs, smacked Knew the song, but couldn't sing the words Still up at dawn, shifting forms, new resolve, guns go off Guns go off, smoke and fire, light and sound My new name colonizers can't pronounce Bounce per ounce, more, what counts? Kill your landlord, no doubt Asymmetric, unconventional extremists Make meaning, cream zenith Lead with my left, beam freedom World passport, blood pleadin' Sick and shut in, signs and wonders You don't have to be here if you don't wanna You ain't gotta be here if you don't wanna
That Elucid's verse on the second track. What's your take on the deeper meaning of that?

A lot of it seems like wannabe Ghostface rhymes with the non-sequiturs but Ghost could actually pull of that style where I feel like these guys fall flat with it. Just not for me.

to me it's just about general purpose, freedom, revolution, and autonomy. kinda like a mantra. works for me too since the song is short enough to loop over and over.
there's all these (sometimes false) limitations in place and imaginary barriers in your path. make your own meaning. beam freedom. change your name, define yourself. i interpret world passport as meaning you technically have the capability to go anywhere on the planet, but most don't even if they're financially stable enough to. most of us know that call to action or that desire for something greater and can't even begin to articulate it because it seems so far out of reach.
i also don't really see either of their styles as being that close to ghostface, but to each their own.

Good breakdown of the lyrics. I can respect that but yeah it's just not for me. I've heard random tracks by them over the years and just couldn't really get into it. Some of Billy Woods solo s**t I've been able to f**k with, but Elucid's just never done anything for me.

Perhaps u can go back to ur discord tipperoo. How about seeing someone elses side of things just once u long winded guy you. Seriously its mumble rap and it is pretentious. Who cares if thers a following I personally don't like MY rap to sound this way. And when u pass it off as art or charge crazy u can def go f**k yourself cuz 9 outta 10 people can do what u do. Thers only so many philosphers in rap, just like thers only so many actual good voices in country music. The rest of the time any degenerate white guy with a geeetar can make a country ballad and any retard off the syrup can make a rap song. Armand hammer f**king sucks. Except and respect my opinion. This isn't Baptist church where u turn a f****t. U will not make a believer out of me that this is good.

You tend to not actually explain your side of things in a way that's not filled to the brim with hyperbole right out the gate (mumble rap) so how can you expect me to see where youre coming from when it seems like there's not any real basis for it beyond "i don't like this so it sucks". Just flinging s**t for the sake of it. I'm not trying to make a believer out of you though, and I know you couldn't give a s**t either way. It's all good. At least me and obmj4eva had a nice lil back n forth here.

I wanna say mach and Gunn drag words where woods and earl mumble. Big difference. That said Pray for Haiti was solid. The opener "The 26th Letter" was the best I heard mach in a min. All 3 joints with gunn were dope but "Murder Czn" mach sounded like dumb a** wyclef. The track with fahim was also dope. And the closer "Ten Boxes-Sin Eater" was nice to. Maybe AOTY but if it is its definitely been a weak 2021.

Why do you doubt that? I'd listen to anyone's favorite albums of the year, whole point of these threads for me is to see what I was missing out on

As far as I've ever seen u don't miss much. Ur prolly the only surviving member of the old ughh that keeps up with this s**t that closely. I'd like to believe ud listen to papoose or lloyd banks.

It gets more and more difficult to keep up each year but I still try to listen to as much as I can, and I don't really see that stopping anytime soon at least. I listened to the papoose ep from a few weeks ago which was ok but the Lloyd Banks album that dropped in June or July was legitimately great. First album he's dropped that can hold up to some of the mixtape stuff i've heard from him. No real complaints other than it being a lot of one thing for 68 minutes.

So I listened to that Skyzoo album and was severely let down. The opening joint Free Jewelry is really good and then it goes down hill and I've always been a huge Sky fan. His soft stuff has run its course. He needs more in ur face "spitter" type tracks then these songwriter heart felt s**t with dollar bin r&b hooks. Whoever produced this is terrible as well and was prolly my biggest problem. The re-working of known samples didn't work. Beats we have heard a thousand times with a new jazz twist that made em corny to me and some annoying. Album sucked. Sky is getting really redundant.

nice lists lex
maybe thats what i will do these next few days as the year winds down. go thru al my releases from the past year and try and comprise a list. it used to be so much easier lol
i feel like i probably missed a lot this year, but i will rank up all the ones i got from this year and at least be able to figure out which ones were the best based off how much i played them.
their was certain months that were just dominated by certain releases. like whenever haram dropped that was non-stop for awhile. same with american cheese (don't judge lol). vegas vic. a bunch more...
yl jesus is my homeboy dominated, too, but that technically was released on dec 25 2021 which sucks cuz i didn't hear it til 2021 and was prob my aoty looking back lol. nothing compares to that ish besides other yl and starker releases for me lol lol
theravada xenophon too which dropped in jan 21.
those 3 guys and the wrecking crew killed it this year

LEX718 I see Th1rt3en didn't make your top10, no hard fillings lol but really is a great album! No argument there.. I did add it to my honorable mentions. As much as I liked it, I really didn't find myself going back to it as often as I thought I would when I first heard it. My top 10 was all albums I could go back to regularly. Nas and the latest Mach-Hommy are sort or exceptions because they are recent but I really like both of them a lot. They hit me harder than most albums I've heard. There's a ton that I like a lot that didn't make these lists.. Listening to the Apollo Brown and Stalley right now which is definitely good enough to be in my honorable mentions at least.
