One of the best debut albums ever will be re-leased again to all streaming platforms and on vinyl to commemorate the album’s 20th anniversary on October 19th 2019!
1 Intro 2 Behind Closed Doors 3 Queens 4 Rape 5 Simon Says 6 Official 7 Hell feat. Canibus 8 No Mercy feat. M.O.P 9 Right Here 10 The Next s**t feat. Busta Rhymes 11 The a** feat. Apani 12 The Light 13 God Send feat. Prince Po 14 The Truth feat. Common & Talib Kweli 15 Simon Says (Remix) feat. Busta Rhymes, Lady Luck, Method Man, Redman, Shabaam Sahdeeq
Internal Affairs was released on October 19, 1999, via legendary underground Hip-Hop label Rawkus Records and Priority Records, bolstered by the thumping Lee Stone and Monch-produced “Simon Says” track.
That song actually is the reason for the album’s disappearance from mainstream retail outlets due to the sampling of the theme music from the Godzilla films.

first time ever i agree w observe. it really wasn't that great imo either. the song with m.o.p produced by alchemist is a classic track tho.
monch and polo need to do a whole album. that gots potential to be a classic.

Really good album. Didn't quite have the vibe of an OK release which I think disappointed a lot of people but was definitely what Monch wanted to do. Will be nice to give it a spin again. No Mercy was my favorite track along with The Truth. The Light, Behind Closed Doors and Queens were all bangers too.

what i didnt like is that it was an attempt go more mainstream. more pseudo underground polished s**t from rawkus like a lot of their s**t was. a few weak beats on it and even a few bad tracks, average and somewhat commercial guest emcees, singing hooks. sampling maxwell's album from 1996 also. lol
huge drop in quality from stress: extinction agenda.

and yeah im not saying it was bad. looking back, simon says was def a classic Hip Hop single. not in a bad mainstream way that beat was monumental and we got to hear bars in the club/ I mean ummm on the radio. I was 13 when it dropped lol.

^ i meant that it was more popular emcees and a few of them were getting pretty mainstream by that point. pretty generic guest emcee line up.

Uh, no, it's a pretty great line up for 1999. Same people showing up on Tony Touch's 50 mcs series.

generic popular east coast emcee line up and in 1999 i wasnt checkin for redman, meth or talib or lady luck. lol i was into that underground west coast s**t by then and the east coast and mid west stuff that was pushing the boundaries. many underground heads by '97 had had enough of all the generic, straight forward east coast s**t and had moved on. like i said , i wasnt feeling much of the rawkus although a lot of it was ok.
not a very creative, raw or next level album by any means. monch tryin to get doe.

not even trying to be elitist or a d**k 88. i know a lot of people who wernt feelin this album and the s**t beats red and meth were rockin on by '98 for example. i had moved on like when kool keith moved to LA to escape the east coast thug rap and straight forward generic rap over dose. "is the world made of plastic?"

^yeah, c'mon man- nothing wrong with your post. dont be sensitive. many cant adjust their knowledge and put their egos on hold. you must know that there was a huge shift in the underground between '96 and 2002-ish??
in '99- the year internal affairs was released i was listening to:
the shapeshifters aceyalone sub contents doseone/anticon living legends atmosphere (overcast!) mr dibbs dj krush del atoms fam co-flow sir menalik supernatural sebutones c.v.e xololanxinxo deep puddle dynospectrum adeem sage mr lif
etc.
dont be defensive. you mention a popular- tip of the iceburg album and get mad when people express their perspective
people wanted new, different s**t around that time and pharoahe brought a boring standard album.

yeah- some of you whiners be like- its all no masks fault- cause he expresses his opinion freely when one of the actual problems with ughh is sensitive, competitive, egotistical people who cant handle an opinion that doesnt reinforce their narrative.

No mask your problem has never been about expressing your opinion. You come off like an egotistical know it all who feels your opinion is Facts and its the final word. Always been my issue with you. you don't say IMO i fell..
You say IT isn't , Its this, Its that. This is the way it is..You're knowledge on hip hop doesn't dictate you're right, just puts you in an informative position to speak about a subject.
Half of those artists you listed IMO are trash, and couldn't stomach an entire album. it's not because im closed minded, or one sided,or haven't heard of them its because that's my opinion. But i won't make claims that it is garbage for you or others. and i won't dismiss you for thinking it isn't.
Anyhow,
Internal affairs was an ok album. I remember being let down with it. beats were nto up to par imo. I own two original released copies hoping fan boys dish out good coin for one of them lol. I keep the other one.

lol at no masks 99 list ... listening to most of this nerdy s**t must have been painful ... supernat never made a decent album ... rhymesayers? c'mon, man ... anticon and those canadian guys always been awful ... of course, monch has been better than all of the music no mask listened to in the late 90s even though "internal affairs" was kinda disappointing compared to his organized releases ... and regarding the majority of the featured rappers on pharoahe's solo debut, I have to go along with no mask as I don't need lady luck, shabaam sahdeeq, busta rhymes, talib kweli, common or method man verses on a p.m. longplayer...

^ i could take more care in saying IMO. but people shouldnt assume im being egotistical. sometimes i get intense about a subject and i may come off pushy or big headed etc. certain things arnt subjective though like the creativity expansion that occured in UG rap between '97 and 2002 approx.

your problem maxxx if you really think all those artists are weak. most of them came super original and pushed the boundaries and made rap refreshing again. pretty silly statements maxxx. generalizing it all as nerdy etc makes no sense and isnt accurate at all...
rock on!

Live poets Disflex6 sacred hoop saafir/hobos Busdriver Global Phlowtations Aesop rock last emperor Rubberoom Eyedea Omid radioinactive Of mexican descent
all breathed new life into rap in and around '99 while monch went more generic and accessible with his mediocre solo debut.

no mask, you seem to drop lots of random rap names that nobody but jae seagraves hip hop infinity stans and some foolblown customers gave a f**k about ... don't get me wrong, I like and respect artists like co-flow, mr. lif, aesop rock, and hobo junction (although the saucee nomad's career was rather disappointing after his promising debut album), and I still listen to the "beneath the surface" compilation every now and then, but from your lists, the only one who's really on pharoahe's level is last emp...
