There is burgeoning research coming out Europe (France mainly) that posits this is a physiological/biomechanical problem vs the more entrenched view of it being a psychological/neurological thing.
Based off that I addressed what may be contributing factors to muscular dysfunction in the head-neck complex that would contribute to this issue. I went to a TMD specialist and got diagnosed with muscular TMD and got a specialized occlusal splint that keeps my back teeth from bruxing at night. This helped considerably in and of itself. I’m now doing physical therapy with a therapist who read up on the research for me and believes in it — finding supportive clinicians is difficult.
I went from literally being homebound in double hearing protection large parts of the day to fully functional again pretty much. I mean I can probably never go to a concert or something loud like that. I can’t use a lawnmower or things like that. But I can do plenty in comparison to where I was.
