Since the golden age is over and hip hop has been stuck in the dark ages for some time now, the criteria for what is “a great rapper” has been lowered so far down the scale that average rappers are being crowned kings and greatest of all times. It’s ridiculous to say the least.
Imma start with one of the most obvious “greats” that ain’t sht.
Little Wayne.
A child rapper similar to lil bow wow or kris Kross that has apparently dropped timeless classics like All Eyes On Me, The Chronic, Aquemini and Ready To Die.
No. He didn’t. He was a plant and people got force fed his music.
Add on. I’d love to hear about it.

I reckon Celph Titled.
Has some of the best punchlines and voice ever but...
He has some really s**t lines IMO and hasn't released an album in toooo long.
I'll probably get sprayed for this!

The reason Celph came to mind is because I've been listening to that U.G. Portals (like I mentioned in another thread).
This song comes on and I want to skip it, the chorus and the feature verse is weak and missed opportunity IMO.
"Yeah I have no remorse, tie you to a race car watch it go its course the flow contorts and twists ya like a pretzel dough mixture" Celph Titled plus U.G. equals total asphyxia"
That's just one.

Kendrick Lamar J. Cole Cordae
Top 3 most overrated currently. So many lesser known artists better than those guys.
As for Celph Titled, if anything he is underrated IMO.

Rick Ross. I heard people talk about him having classics.
C minus rapper who wouldn’t stand out whatsoever in the 90s.
Agree with Kendrick being massively overrated too. He’s experimental, but let’s calm down. He’s not a top 20 rapper. If he’s as good as some people claim, those same people should look at Outkast like absolute gods.

Drake takes the crown for most overrated rapper of all time.
Hands down.
There are real people on this planet walking around saying Drake needs to be in the “top 5 doa” conversation.
What? Lol
No.

Way too many to mention. I'm not even going to spend time using my memory to name them all.
Most of them are. Some are overrated since day 1 and others are overrated because they made 1 very good album 5, 10 or 20 years ago and people still call them GOAT despite everything they did since then is average to bad

Not sure Flee Lord is what we’re going for here. He’s not even rated.
More like J-Cole or Lupe. Two dudes considered lyrical, yet they suck compared to most rappers that came before them.

pretty much everything thats out in the mainstream comes to mind...
wayne, kendrick, cole, drake for sure..
i havent heard anyone rate lupe in years except for observe lol so i'd leave him out, he's ok..speaking of observe where he been at did he get locked up in jail, the psych ward, OD or cant pay his phone bill hopefully hes aight lol
my pick is jay-z. he's got classic s**t over the years but one of the most annoying d**k riding fan bases.. magna carta and 444 were pretentious wack garbage but fans will say the s**t is over alot people's heads and that detractors dont understand it maybe they "get it" in the future wtf.. s**t was just wack. talking about you have to buy a phone to get an album he did lol. definitely not the GOAT.

J cole IMO isn't overrated at all. Great/ talented MC. He absolutely bodied Bennys Johnny P caddy track.
Kendrick can make a great album and a not so great album.
Drake - he's an entertainer and he bodied Common so that has to be worth something.
Myka 9, Chino XL are overrated . Talented but putting words together isn't enough to make a good rapper. Their voice and flows are for select ears / acquired taste.

I was thinking 21 Savage.
A few times I've read reviews of his stuff, like that he'd come into his own and stepped up, and then gone and listened to it, only to be let down.
Dude had an album with Drake didn't he so someone thinks he's worthy.

Lil Wayne. He'll have good verses from time to time but unfortunately it's not always the standard. Many of his songs are filled with mindless incoherent wordplay that makes no sense. The fact there were some people that claim that he carried Hip Hop/Rap from 2005-2009 says a lot of how dire and pathetic that era was. His influence on music has also been questionable and is the origin of some mumble rappers that have plagued the industry throughout the last 15 years. I'd also say that he's the reason the druggie archetypal image has been prevalent in Hip Hop those past years too. The rise of codeine usage has gotten big due to his mentioning of it.
I would also say T.I., Method Man, Meek Mill, Conway The Machine, and Andre 3000 are up there being overrated as well
