he's not top 10 for me but i'd rank him pretty high just off the strength of the two sonic sum albums alone. i've been searching for rap with that type of atmosphere ever since and it's hard to come by.

Not that high, he reminds me of Aesop Rock but his flow is too wooden and his production too electronic for me.
That being said those older songs posted above I like, reminds me of old Atoms Family vibes.

Look I don’t disagree that Rob’s beats sound a little, EL-P light.
Of all the Def Jux roster, who other than Sonic did you like. For me it was for Camu Tao, Cage, Can Ox, Despot.
Besides I thought I was the worst poster diaphragms!?

Loved Sonic since way back and if you dig into his discography he's been pretty consistent, Sonic Sum, solo-material and as Hail Marry Mallon. If he's not in my top 10 he's pretty damn close.

i like the guy, but not a top anything for me personally. with that said, if you like him that's totally cool, too! i def enjoyed the more fun vibes of him and aesop on hmm albums but just didn't go back and play them much so i sold them on discogs. one still available if anyone's interested.
my favs on def jux were always mr lif and hangar 18. wish cool calm pete woulda dropped on def jux before the label crumbled. he announced recently that his album "lost" will be re-released soon with a handful of bonus tracks soon!
