www.parentingforbrain.com/controlling-parents/Specifically I found these behaviors by controlling parents interesting. Here are some common signs of controlling parents: Demand blind obedience and conformity. Do not allow children to participate in or question the parents’ decisions. Do not let their child make their own decisions. Do not encourage choice or independence. Dictate every aspect of the child’s life. “Help” the child without being asked. Use reasons such as “because I said so” to discipline. Believe children should be seen, but not heard. Manipulate and exploit the parent–child bond, through such as guilt induction or love withdrawal. Discipline through punishment and coercion. Use negative, affect-laden expressions and criticisms, such as disappointment and shame.

Only one I disagree with...
"Use reasons such as “because I said so” to discipline."

Only one I disagree with... "Use reasons such as “because I said so” to discipline." Lol yeah I use that one. Sometimes you just need kids to listen. You don’t always have the time to explain everything. Then there’s “you know why” I’m not gonna explain the same thing over every single time. Like to say you don’t always have the time for that s**t. I think it’s more so if that’s your go to in the case of controlling parents.

I've been seeing my son push away from sports, he's still enjoys it but it's not a passion for him like it was for me.
He seems to shine in filming, editing, youtube videos, etc - and he's only 9. I've been pushing him hard in that direction since I can see the talent.

I've been pushing him hard in that direction since I can see the talent. Its awesome that he’s still interested in and talented at something you are skilled at as well. It’s nice to be able to share that with your children. My oldest son bounces from one thing to the next right now and it’s difficult to lay out a path for development of skills like that. He is into video games (like most kids lol) so I got him into Code Ninjas because he said he wanted to make his own games. Now he’s saying he wants to be a comedian. So I’m trying to get him into being a self-starter setting aside time to work on material, practice his routines etc. At first he just looked salaries up online and came and told me comedians make an average of $15 an hour. I had to break it down to him how stand up comedians don’t work the same hours as a typical punch in punch out job and the number of gigs you get and how large they are determine payouts. He seems like he might be losing interest in that now lol. I just don’t know what to do. Like your son, he’s young (8) so I don’t want to apply pressure and say you need to stick with this thing you no longer have that much interest in. But at the same time, he’s gotta stop bouncing around so much or else he’s not going to develop any in-depth knowledge of things and turn it into a skill set that can he can use in the job market.

Haha. Classic.
Yeah, there are plenty of moments in time when you realize your kids aren't you. But when you have that bond on something from your childhood and theirs, it's special...my son and I love watching 80's and 90's movies. He loves Terminator, Back to the Future, Princess Bride, Christmas Vacation, etc...
He's also a big fan of my instrumental hip hop ear. "This right here...this is Eligh and the song is Hacker." Since he wants to be a "hacker" he lost his mind.
