So far I’ve watched the first 6 police academy movies, back to the future 1 & 2, Batman, Howard the Duck, Rocky, Red Sonja, They Call Me Bruce, Top Gun, Tremors and Uncle Buck. A lot of those aren’t favorites, but they bring back childhood memories.

The 80s had easily the best comedy films of any decade.

I only skipped mentioning Empire Strikes Back, because I guessed it had already been said, but I guess not.
Tin Men is not as highly regarded, but I think it's worth checking out, just because of the casting team up: Danny DeVito and Richard Dreyfuss playing competing slimeball salesman of tin siding for houses. Less known movie that's pretty fun. Made by the same director as Diner and Good Morning Vietnam.
Near Dark is a cool biker vampire gang movie by Katheryn Bigelow, who is more known for her later movies with Mark Boal, Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty. Bill Paxton is having a lot of fun in this movie.
The Grave of the Fireflies is like the saddest movie ever made.
Come and See is a depressing war movie about a kid stuck in the middle of all the death and carnage of war. Essential foreign movie, but a pretty miserable time, haha.
Haven't seen early Jarmusch, but I know Stranger Than Paradise and Down by Law are supposed to be great. I mean, you got Tom Waits trying to break out of prison in Down by Law -- what more could you want?
Uh, Die Hard, anyone?
I don't really f**k with horror, but Poltergeist.
It's kind of acquired taste material, I guess, but Purple Rain is a gem.

I also recently rewatched the first two Back to the Futures, this past Saturday. Man, that first movie is one of the best blockbuster/popcorn screenplays ever written. Everything in the plot happens so logically and naturally. It's a great rubics cube. For example, the whole reason Marty ends up in the past is because he's trying to escape the Libyan terrorist dudes who just killed Doc, so that means that Marty's goal of returning to the future is a conflicted one, because he'll be returning to Doc dying. It's an amazing detail. God, what a movie. The only problem with it is the cultural appropriation stuff, where we're told that Chuck Berry's music actually came from a white kid. But even that is a circular time travel logic thing that I guess can be shrugged off?
The sequels have some script problems, but are still a ton of fun as well. Like, for all Doc's talk about not f**king up the space time continuum, BTF2 is predicated on Doc wanting to risk the health of the whole universe just to save Marty's kids... And Doc needing Marty to solve that problem is quite a stretch. Compared to the great logic of the first movie on why Marty's the one that ends up in the past, BTF2's reasoning for involving Marty in the plot needed more drafts. But whatever, the movie jumps the most timelines, it's fun.
Never realized before this rewatch (because I haven't watched these in over a decade, at least), but they switch the actress playing Marty's girlfriend in the second movie. She has a super small role in the first movie, so I guess they just casted some eye candy, but then for the second movie they needed someone who could act, so they recast. But that's just an unfair assumption; for all I know, they wanted the initial actress, but she was busy, or something. I mean, they recast Marty after a few weeks of shooting, because the first guy wasn't working out, so I wouldn't put it past them.

Also hadn't realized before this rewatch, but the "nobody calls me chicken!" character flaw only shows up for the first time in the second movie. In my memory of watching these movies as a kid, that flaw is in all three of them, but I guess it only shows up in the second and third. It makes sense: they made two and three at the same time, and wanted to give Marty a longer two-movie character arc, so they gave him this flaw. But it tripped me up, when I realized that it never exists in the first movie. Weird.

Also, the mom is like the horniest character in movie history in the first movie, and it's great fun. They don't let characters be horny in movies anymore, really.

I haven’t seen quite a few of those. I’ve bought like 50 movies on prime over the past two months lol. Mostly 80’s. Mostly comedies to start because with my medical issues I just wanted some light s**t to watch and reminisce on childhood. Now I’m starting to branch out more into other genres.

Wikipedia says the first actress left because her mother got cancer.
They also recast George Mcfly which I didn’t realize over failed contract negotiations.

The george mcfly dude really hated what his character became at the end of the first one. He said he felt like "capitalism won", so I think contract negotiations might have been only part of it,or the official answer or something. Apparently he was super weird irl, but that's part of what got the great performance out of him.
His character is only in BTF2 for two brief scenes, and he's hanging upside down,so I'm not surprised it's adifferent actor and we don't even notice.
Michael J fox played the daughter as well as the son in BTF2, and that's sich a weird and fun fact.
Too bad about that first actress' mama. Thanks for the info.

I read this article when I was rewatching, that suggests there’s a racist undertone to the series in several places. www.google.com/amp/s/thedailybanter.com/.amp/2015/10/just-how-racist-is-back-to-the-future/I kinda disagree with some of it. I mean the thing about the black family is somewhat accurate to me. But at the same time he runs into his principal I think and he is white and lives in the ghetto and the gang they does the drive by on his house is either all white or largely white. It’s funny though because they speak on the racial undertone toward blacks, but the only middle easterners being terrorists thing seems to not get any acknowledgement lol.

When my friend and I watched it,we both agreed a Mad Max spinoff of the principal's life in that timeline should have happened and was a missed opportunity in Hollywood history. They f**ked up!

Looks like Crispin Glover from BTTF was also in River’s Edge in the 80’s that looks interesting.
Today’s movie is Cujo. Yesterday I watched Silver Bullet. Like to say Stephen King was my favorite author growing up so going back and seeing how these books translated to screen is cool.

River's Edge is alright. Unique Keanu performance. I recall reading an article where the writer argued that Keanu has been miscast in a lot of movies, leading to him having a reputation of being a bad actor, but this one uses actually uses his talents correctly, and so this movie displays his true, unacknowledged talents.
