I recently obtained a beautiful Folio Society edition of the Gnostic Gospels. I have 2 older/destroyed hardback copies kicking about but this Folio copy has an incredible amount of footnotes. I'm currently reading Will Durants "Age Of Reason" though, I'd post a good quote from it but I'm laying down to go to sleep so I can get up for work tonight.

Another gift from Christmas. I own a lot of books, but haven't been reading much lately. Last book I read was Naked Lunch by William S Burroughs and that was a tough read. lol

I've been reading a ton of comics lately, Just finished Tom King's Vision run. Would have finished it sooner but I was waiting on the Second TPB. I thought it was brilliant though, easily one of the best things to come from either of the Big 2 in years imo. Tom King has been killing it lately, one of my new favorite writers for sure.
I'm also really liking the Jeff Lemire & Greg Smallwood Moon Knight run. Just read the first trade recently which is only the first 5 issues. Moon Knight has always been one of my favorites and so far i think it's a pretty interesting take on the character. One of those books that really messes with your head and keeps you guessing. I might even start reading the single issues because I don't want to wait until June 2017 for the next trade to find out what happens next.

my 1st post on this forum. holy s**t, this was a good graphic novel. this is the artist's first work, so i can't wait to see what he does in the future. he's only in his 20's, so for him to put out something this advanced is exciting. been making my way through wilson's plays. got to this one, and i'm real excited now to see the movie. the main character is a classic. loved this play. been reading this for fun. it's good. there's some stuff in it i haven't read in similar writing books. worthwhile. saw this on a best-graphic-novels-of-all-time list, so thought i'd check it out. halfway through. it's alright. i expect something genius will happen soon. it's due back at the library today, so i'll be done soon. got this for xmas. it's f**king dope. ring was a sports writer in the early 1900's, who wrote humorous sports related short stories. he was famous for the accuracy of his speech, so, if you want to hear what people talked like back then, go read this guy's stuff. the best short i've read by ring isn't in this collection, but it's called a caddy's diary. it's told from the perspective of a caddy on a first class golf clubhouse, and how all the rich folks cheat at golf. pretty funny stuff. anyway, one of the stories in this collection, alibi ike, reminds me of observe. it's about a guy who's always lying and making excuses, even when he does something good. it's from the perspective of one of two guys that tease him and test his ability to lie his way out of any situation.

Hmm I think you should at least have some knowledge of the character and his background, but it's not like you need to go back and read the super early runs or anything.
He's one of those characters where the origin usually stays the same for the most part even though each writer might have a different take on him and his powers/multiple personalities. I recommend you check out a wiki page or something but Basically you just need to know that at one point he was a mercenary on a job in Egypt who was betrayed by the people he was working with. He died and then was resurrected by Khonshu, the Egyptian God of the moon/vengeance. Also, he has Dissociative Identity Disorder and is kinda bats**t crazy. Sorta like MF DOOM with the different personas in a way.
That's the gist of it, but i'd recommend at least reading the run that Warren Ellis did with Declan Shalvey back in 2014. It's really f**king good and would make you appreciate the Jeff Lemire run more, i think. It's 6 issues and is collected in one TPB called Moon Knight Volume 1: From the Dead. The series continues after that with different writers up to issue 17. it's still worth reading post-Ellis, but the thing I like the most about the 6 issues he did is that they're all self contained stories. It's a lot of fun and the art is great too.
I haven't read Descender yet, i've heard nothing but good things about it though. I have the first two trades on my shelf, just haven't gotten around to reading them yet. Maybe i'll start that next.

i don't know anything about invisible republic but the autumnlands is another series i've been meaning to check out for a while. i really like benjamin dewey's art in that, from what i've seen anyway. the second trade comes out at the end of february so i'll probably check it out then. i somehow always forget about kurt busiek even though i thought astro city and marvels were great, i don't think i've read anything else he's done though.

I'm really excited for the second trade to come out, because it's taken longer than it typically does for other series to get the second volume out, which I interpret as them putting more effort into it.
Invisible republic is written and drawn by one of the storyboard artists for inception and interstellar. It's a fantastic comic. Sci-fi political thriller.

i'm currently 100 pages deep into this book, and it's amazing. this woman who is involved in a government agency that travels through time and space gets involved in investigating a murder. the prime suspect is a man from her agency who went missing (and was thought to be gone for good) on a time travel expedition. real good multi genre story. and the plot moves super fast, so it's an easy high concept read. highly recommended book.
