I’m talking catalogue, I feel like g rap probably gonna wash ace in here but it’s a tough call for me.
I love ‘live and let die, 456, roots of evil’ etc, and g rap at his peak and was and is still a monster. Some of his rhymes were so hilarious, I feel like he doesn’t get enough credit for that. Live and let die is classic as it gets.
But personally I’ve just bumped ace, particularly disposable arts, a long hot summer and Sittin on chrome more and continue to bump them more. Anybody feel the same or is g-rap clear?
BDK probably a better comparison for most but as dope as he is I never bumped his s**t to the same level.

I think Ace may have the most consistently dope catalog of any solo rap artist.

I like Kool G Rap, but Disposable Arts is a certified classic. As a Saints Row fan, "Take a Walk" is constantly in my rotation. So I have to say Masta Ace Personally. However, don't get it twisted, Kool G's work on "The Godfather" and his own solo record "4, 5, 6" is fantastic.

I’m talking catalogue, I feel like g rap probably gonna wash ace in here If you didn't preface it by saying you're talking catalog, G Rap would wash Ace. He is the better rapper, but Ace is the more well rounded craftsman when it comes to creating product.

G Rap’s multi’s are insane and he’s got the hood stories on lock. But overall Ace is just more diverse and wittier

Who is Kook G Rap? Lol
Both are top 25 MCs ever. Masta Ace has a smoother, slower flow and enunciates as his words in a precise manner. His lyrics are typically more relatable and he covers different topics. I agree he is wittier.
As far as music, it is probably a tie, maybe the edge to Kool G Rap. Someone once told me G Rap invented multi-syllabic rhyming. Not sure if any one MC can take credit for that, but he was certainly a pioneer and influenced countless MCs. Those three albums with DJ Polo were groundbreaking s**t.

If Master Ace never existed, it wouldn’t have made a difference even in the slightest as far as how hip hop advanced and updated.
Can’t say the same in regards to Kool G Rap tho. He’s the Godfather. He laid blueprints countless rappers used and followed.
I got love for Ace but c’mon son.

I reckon you'd receive a swift and severe beat down if you called him kook g rap lol
They're in different lanes to me, but I have to go with G rap

Lol, f**ken auto correct… seems like most agree, G rap as a straight up bars rapper is clear but catalogue it’s super tight, must seeming to roll with ace. Ace is probably in my personal top 5 rappers, caught him years ago and his show was lit. Played all the classics I wanted basically apart from ‘late model sedan’.
G rap was more impactful though for sure and could of rapped circles around ace in a cypher in the 90s, but that’s just more his style.
Both super creative rappers though, a lot of those early 80s and early 90s albums I can’t really listen too now because the production sounds so flat now but g rap was so damn entertaining no matter.

And as far as discographies, Master Ace has some great albums but nothing’s touching 456.

So by proxy he’s had a huge impact on the game from that alone really. Whether that was for good or bad, lol.

Both have been able to out our pretty reasonable music all the way through to today, particularly ave, I haven’t really listened to any kgr since riches royalty and respect, and even that i haven’t revisited since it dropped really. Ace on the other hand has had some really solid releases. The first album with MP was one of my favourites from that year. Plus the ma doom was dope as well. Others have been decent

kook g rap is g rap since he got old and senile
masta ace is better and more consistent. end thread
g rap is better if we're talking 80's releases and show stealing guest appearances.
sorry buck i love 4,5,6 BUT there's at least 6 albums ace did that were wayyyyy better
wanted dead or alive is better than 4,5,6 so is live and let die and roots of evil actually

Impact: Kool G Rap (based on what I have heard) Which one I listen more: Masta Ace
That's from someone who was born on 1982, I wasn't even listening any music when Kool G Rap released his best albums... hence those are my choices

I gotta disagree. 456 is a masterpiece and I still hear Fast Life and It’s A Shame out of car windows. Never heard anyone play Master Ace in their car.
Career wise, Master Ace has put out more quality music in the back half of his career than G Rap has.

dude i love 4,5,6 too mang!
ace became the man to me when disposable arts dropped. high school "me" put him in his top 10 and he has worked in to the top 5 since with all the great releases over the years. i always loved "take a look around" since i got it. one of the first 80's Hip Hop albums i ever got into besides gang starr. the only two i wasn't connecting with was slaughterhouse and sitting on chrome then one day it happened, I really focused on them in the car and it clicked, I realized they were just as amazing as the rest. GOAT status
i don't know if this bumping out of car argument beats all these great albums but obviously it's all good to have different opinions and a lil healthy debate between two passionate fans of rap.
kool g rap has dropped some of the best verses of all time.
lately ive been diving into bdks older catalog and been enjoying what i heard.
rip to dj mister cee! my heart goes out to ace, leschea (ace's wife) i know they were real close (and bdk of course)

I've never heard a Masta Ace album that I truly loved. I've always said that Disposable Arts and A Long Hot Summer are incredibly overrated albums, the old board used to swoon over those LPs. They have their moments, and they are well-executed concept albums, but I found the music to be overall bland. They have their moments. Take A Walk is a super dope track.
EMC- The Show might be my favorite album he's been involved in. I know SlaughtaHouse and Sittin' on Chrome tend to be regarded as his greatest works. Don't think I've heard either of those all the way through aside from some tracks here and there. I want to listen to his albums with Marco Polo.

Overrated in the sense that the music isn't that good. People talk about them like they are 10/10 albums when they are more like 7/10.
Not saying they are bad, just overrated. Like I said, they each have some good songs.

Like I said, they each have some good songs. Nah, a 7/10 is definitely good music. bad music is like a 4 and under. 5-6 should be like mediocre. The only people that talk about Masta Ace tend to be fans. The only top underground album lists he's popping up in is 00's centered ones. It's like those who listen, typically love. But, nobody is really out here calling them masterpieces that are must listens. I think Disposable Arts personally is, but i'd rep Eminem's debut way before telling eerybody that "Disposable Arts" is a must listen. I simply disagree with it being overrated. I think it's rated exactly how it should be matter of fact. It's a solid hip hop concept album featuring dope lyricism, catchy hooks, and soulfully banging beats. Agree to disagree basically.

All good, we are all entitled to our own opinions. That's the beautiful thing about music or art or life in general, we all react to things differently. And I agree with your rating system as well.
Been a while since I listened to either album, so I will have to revisit. I bought both when they dropped and expected more. The skits and stuff told the story well, but they detracted from the music. I tend to like grittier beats, and the beats on those projects were not really my cup of tea. But yeah, I like soulful stuff. Good Ol Love and Beautiful are fantastic, emotive songs. I love Masta Ace's lyrics, he has a way of talking to you.
