i was skeptical of spotify and all the hype at first but for $10 a month its really amazing. Easy to search and sample new music, make playlists and you can download playlists and albums and it takes up little memory on your device and downloads fast. Respectable selection too. for the price of one album you get as many as you want per month. only issue i found is that it can be glitchy on my pc- opening slow and slowing down other apps when opening for a few minutes (similar to itunes) and i had to use task manager a bunch of times to close it down when it froze. my PC is 8 years old though and it works fine on the ipad air.
another plus is for the car its great. super easy to download albums or playlists in 1 button and then your good to go. no messing around with the itunes app. itunes store is a prison compared to spotify.
i dont work for spotify. haha

I was going to post about this since we had a discussion about iTunes and other music storage software applications on the other board. I love iTunes and swear by them so I'm curious on what the future holds.
Does anyone know if the current version on your computer will continue to work? I don't care about any updates or even connecting to the internet for album covers, etc. I'm just scared to lose all of my playlists if I switch to another application for music storage and organization.
tippi had a rec for me that I can't remember and is probably lost in ughh cyber space. hope he reads this...

No mask, you can download playlists, and it'll play in the order you arranged the playlist in? That was my big concern about moving to these streaming softwares.
I'm disappointwd itunes is dying off too, nws. I think i read that apple is being weirdly quiet about how this will all go down and when.

Aren’t they just compartmentalizing it into three separate apps essentially? Apple Music, TV, and Podcasts. Shouldn’t lose any functionality. Just changes in how things are executed. Here’s some highlights from this article that perhaps address some of your concerns. Plenty more info in there so recommended reading. www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnet.com/google-amp/news/apple-killed-itunes-heres-what-happens-to-your-music-now/Does my iTunes collection go away? No way. Every song you've ever bought, ripped, uploaded or imported will already be part of Apple Music when you upgrade from your current Mac OS version to Catalina. All the files that are already on your computer will remain. Apple isn't liquidating anything you already own, but it will reorganize where the files live. Even my ripped CDs, MP3s and playlists? Yep, even those. You'll find them in your Apple Music library. Will I still be able to burn a CD with Apple Music? Yes, if you have an external CD drive and the necessary cables, though this isn't something we've tested yet. What happens to people who use iTunes on Windows? iTunes will continue to work on Windows as is. Will iTunes still work on older version of MacOS? You can still use iTunes on a version of Mac that predates MacOS Catalina (e.g. Mojave), but it won't be available when you make the upgrade. Bbbbbuuuuuuurrrrrrr

tippi, do you move the music to your phone?
if yes, what phone do you have and is there any compatibility issues when adding music to the phone?

yeah, i move music to my phone but not often, just when something isn't on spotify, so the way i do it is probably pretty inefficient. i literally just drag the album folders to my phone lol. i just tested the actual device sync with my galaxy S9 and it seemed to work fine though.

@88- yeah, playlists always play in the proper order. no issues.
@music bee is cool in my experience and media monkey is another dope one that is pretty in depth and user friendly.
i use spotify cause its easier and more convenient but also use media monkey for stuff downloaded onto my computer like doper new stuff i get , older stuff i already have files of etc.
just easier with spotify as your not buying each album and downloading it or unzipping and dragging files into itunes or music bee etc. less laborious and time consuming for sure. that being said though, its a f**king cloud but thats why i use an app for important music that i want to have files of. spotify is a very useful part of the music arsenal and well worth the 9.99/month.
i dont work for them.

^ yeah, music bee and media monkey both work with ipods and pads, mp3 players etc. takes a minute to figure out but you can sync and drag albums and playlists from music bee onto your devices.

Im guessing I wouldnt be able tobuse my ipod with that musicbee software tip's talking about, right? there seems to be an issue syncing ipods and iphones with musicbee directly, but it depends on the model. if you've got an ipod classic, it's probably worth a shot. otherwise, there's a driver that will sync your musicbee library, playlists, etc to itunes and you could sync it that way if you really wanted to. this is from the musicbee FAQ:

Oh, okay. Nice
But how do you get new music in this scenario where i switch to musicbee? Lately, I've been buying albums on itunes and bandcamp. I could still do bandcamp, if i had musicbee, but that doesnt help with gwtting old stuff, since bandcamp is all newer. For example, i couldnt get a rolling stones album on bandcamp, so how do i do that, if i switch to musicbee? Previously, I'd just buy it off itunes.
As streaming grows, there are less and less links to download album ok the internet. I know we have HHB for hip hop, but other genres, i dont know where I'd get music without itunes. I dont think you can buy digital music off amazon in canada. I think i tried it before, and it kept redirecting me to the canadian amazon which didnt have digital music.

i only really buy digital music off bandcamp these days, if it's not on bandcamp and i want to download it instead of streaming, i'll just use Soulseek. i wouldn't blame you if you're skeptical about a peer to peer filesharing program like this, but i've never had any issues with it in the last 10 years. you can find most music on there. trust me this isn't limewire, you won't accidentally download that audio clip of bill clinton talking about how he didn't have sexual relations with that woman. plus, you can see a user's entire music library if they allow it which is useful whenever you come across someone with similar taste.
