i've had it on vinyl for a while, definitely some of their best work. elucid's output recently has been crazy, both this and nostrum grocers are top 5 for me right now this year.

yeah it's been out since july 13 i think, or sometime early july i don't remember the exact date. it was an exclusive vinyl release for a while, but they announced that eventually it would be available digitally & on cd. don't think the official release is until the 31st of this month though. either way, definitely a dope album from one of the best duos of the millennium.

also you might want to grab the album once it's officially released on cd, cassette, digital or whatever, because that version seems to have a lot of differences from the vinyl just based on the two tracks that are available to preview on the bandcamp page right now

interesting. how do they differ?

i guess saying there are a lot of differences would be an exaggeration but the intros to rehearse with ornette and dettol on the vinyl seem to be different from the vinyl, and it seems like they really intended to make the two versions sound differently. maybe it's just more noticable with the two mp3s for me because i've listened to the vinyl a bunch.

Only feeling three or four of the beats (normal for me with both these dudes' releases), but the songs I do like are incredible, as it tends to be with armand hammer

hip hop family tree is a comic by ed piskor that document the early history of hip hop. it's a lot of fun, everyone once in a while i'll grab one and flip through it again. each of those slipcases has two volumes, right now it's only up to volume 4 and covers the 70s up to the mid 80s. here's a few panels

my top 5 right now is
ka & animoss - orpheus vs the sirens avantdale bowling club (tom scott's new project) - incredible fusion of jazz and hip hop, some beautiful arrangements/live instrumentation and honest lyrics. milo & elucid - nostrum grocers busdriver - electricity is on our side armand hammer - paraffin
there's been a ton of projects i've enjoyed this year but this is the first time i've really been 100% satisfied with my top 5 for 2018 and felt comfortable comparing it to other recent years.
what are your favorites so far?

Haven't gotten to peep that Armand Hammer album yet but that's on my short list of things to get into. Was having a hard time finding it since only two songs were available to stream on Bandcamp. Sounds like it will start popping up other places soon though. I like to listen to s**t first and see if I really like it enough to cop it on vinyl.
Gonna add that Avantdale Bowling Club project onto my list of s**t to check out because that sounds awesome.
These are some of my favorites from this year (not in any particular order):
Ka & Animoss - Orpheus vs the Sirens Showbiz - A Room Therapy Murs - A Strange Journey in to the Unimaginable Saba - Care For Me Elzhi & Khyrsis - Jericho Jackson Knowledge the Pirate - Flintlock Milo and Elucid - Nostrum Grocers

those are all good picks, though i probably haven't given saba's album the attention it deserves. if that's one of your favorites of the year you'll probably enjoy the avantdale bowling club record. i made a thread on the other forums and literally one person expressed any sort of interest in checking it out, but imo that album deserves way more recognition than it's getting from anywhere in the world not called new zealand.
i need to give a room therapy and flintlock a few more listens too.
some other notable releases for me:
jean grae & quelle chris - everything's fine cavalier - private stock lushlife & botany - the skull eclipses lojii - lofeye jeremiah jae - daffi psychedelic ensemble - live at the clinic crimeapple & big ghost - aguardiente denmark vessey - sun go nova dr. octagon - moosebumps blackfist - strapped 4 survival noveliss - cerebral apex elucid - no edge ups in uganda denzel curry - ta13oo purpose & bbz darney - the quintessential mc paul barman - echo chamber the doppelgangaz - aaaaggghh jpegmafia - veteran moses rockwell - subterranean sweatpants ozay moore - in the wake of o phonte - no news is good news sims, air credits, and ICETEP - arteria verite

Oh yeah I peeped that Advantdale Bowling Club record and instantly fell in love with it. Listened to it once before bed last night and about three or four times today. I tried to cop it on vinyl but it was already sold out. So I emailed Tom and asked if I could get hooked up if he ends up with any extras or if someone cancels their order. Fingers crossed because that is one of the best albums I have heard in a while. I would for sure put that near the top of my list for the year at this point
I like a lot of those other albums you mentioned too. I got Sun Go Nova, Veteran, No News is Good News, and Daffi on vinyl. Will pick up that Denzel Curry at some point and debating on dropping the real money to get a copy of that Quelle Chris/Jean Grae collab since I missed it when it dropped. Decided to pass on that Ozay Moore because even though I liked the album I thought there was only half the songs that I'd want to listen to consistently. Thanks for the list though! There's a good six or so albums on there that I am not familiar with at all so I will definitely check those out
Other random albums I enjoyed to varying degrees:
Meyhem Lauren - Glass L'Orange and Solemn Bringham - Marlowe Kev Brown - Homework Awon & Phoniks - The Actual Proof Common, Glasper, Riggins - August Greene Mad B - Sound of a Golden State Aceyalone & DJ Fat Jack - 43rd and Excellence Kool G Rap - Son of G Rap Domo Genesis & Evidence - Arent You Glad You're You Muggs - Soul Assassins Pete Flux & Parental - Infinite Growth Spark Master Tape - Seven Sekkonds of Silence OC - A New Dawn Apathy - The Widow's Son Roc Marciano - RR2 Bitter Dose Skyzoo - Celebration of Us Pusha T - Daytona Westside Gunn - Supreme Blientele Flex Matthews & Damu - Dreams & Vibrations Mike - Black Soap Planet Asia - Mansa Musa & Golden Buddha (between the two of these theres a full album of good tracks) Thought the CZARFACE X DOOM collab was okay
Still need to peep that new Black Sheep album as well

glad to hear you liked avantdale bowling club, it's hard to get people to even check that album out for some reason. i definitely feel like that's going to be one that's remembered for years to come though, some of the arrangments harmonies on there are incredible and the production quality overall is really high. apparently he recruited some of the country's top musicians for the album. each song has a purpose and hits the mark, quincy's march is possibly the best song about fatherhood i've ever heard, and home is a great track about nostalgia, feeling homesick and distanced from old friends, pocket lint is about being broke, etc. i missed out on the vinyl too, one day it was still available and then the next i went to buy it and it was sold out. if tom responds let me know what he says, maybe there will be a second pressing. i did get the lyric/art book he's got for sale on his bandcamp page though.
homework, marlowe, dreams & vibrations, infinite growth, august greene, and 43rd and excellence are all up there for me and i enjoyed the majority of the other albums you listed. haven't heard that mad b though and there's a couple others i only gave one listen. black soap was a bit of a let down for me though, do you prefer that over renaissance man?
also, which version of daffi did you end up getting? i couldn't choose between the cops & skulls versions, so i got em both lol.
a few other albums worth checking out from this year:
Medhane - Ba Suba, Ak Jamm ewonee - '73 (instrumental) al.divino x Estee Nack - Akiraonacid Cunabear - Ursine Valor Googie - Floating Polygons Lorde Fredd33 - NORF: The Legend of Hotboy Ronald Cities Aviv - "Raised for a Better View" Apollo Brown & Locksmith - No Question Dillon & Batsauce - On Their Way Cashus King - Lost in the Wilderness Jerry Quickley - (American) FOOL Henry Canyons - Cool Side of the Pillow Moodie Black - Lucas Acid Code Nine x Mr. Rose - 9 Roses Black Milk - Fever

Yeah that album really is top notch. The more I listen to it the more I like it. I will let you know if he gets back to me about the vinyl
I got one of the copies of Daffi with the helmet on the front cover. I think I got the orange one if I remember right. I was going back and forth between that one and the red one.
I honestly totally forgot about Renaissance Man. I have a list of albums on my phone that I glanced at before I wrote that list and somehow I missed it on there. I do prefer that over Black Soap though.
Thanks for that list of albums. The only ones on there that I have listened to are the Apollo Brown/Locksmith and Black Milk albums. I thought Black Milk was okay but didn't love it, nowhere near his best work. I thought the Apollo Brown album was decent but wasn't a huge fan of Locksmith. There's some dope songs on there but overall it doesn't rank that high up on my list of Apollo Brown albums. I preordered it - just because I always do that with Apollo LPs since they are hard to find down the road, and its the first time with one of his albums where I felt like I probably wouldn't have bought it on vinyl had I listened to the whole thing first.
