I've been catching up on Bandcamp releases since they have done those two Covid-19 days where they waived the bandcamp fees for all the artists. I bought these items...

I really hate that we lost Paten Locke. He was a great beat maker... I played the hell out of his solo album, Super Ramen Rocketship. That was a really underrated album. I'm not as big a Dillon fan, but I'm enjoying both Studies In Hunger and Food Chain quite a bit. Did anybody else see Paten Locke perform with Edan during the DJ Shadow/Cut Chemist Renegades Of Rhythm tour? The show was fantastic and I was really hopeful that the P. Locke and Edan connection would turn into a collaborative album.

Ray West - I picked up a bunch of his newish projects since they were free plus Berrii Lipstick, Crenshaw Jezebel (Blu), and Don't Know Why (Kool Keith/Kurious).

I really enjoy the Ray West beats in all their no drum glory. It's got a very raw, unfinished feel to it. And, the emcees sound like they are rapping on a NYC stoop with some barely audible, random tunes playing in the background. I don't want to hear it all the time, but when it's good, it makes me remember why I enjoy this music so much.

Blockhead - Bubble Bath

I really feel like Blockhead hasn't missed on any of his solo albums. His progression feels very organic and unforced. I don't love everything he does, but I never hate any of it. This album is probably middle of the pack when compared to his other releases, but still really good.

I never see anybody post about the old Anticon guys and I kinda understand... They definitely aren't cool and the late 90's abstract style from Anticon and Shape Shifters disappeared like a fart in the wind. I was never a big fan of all the Anticon guys (Dose One, Pedestrian, Why?, etc... were not my cup of tea), but I always felt like Sole had a lot to say. Bottle Of Humans and his Live Poets debut are probably too emo for most listeners in 2020. However, these DJ Pain collaborations are angry without being whiny, edgy without being a caricature, and politically relevant for the times. I don't agree with everything on the record, nor do I expect to. This is good music though and it's getting completely ignored.

and yo bennet - one of the last times i messaged with p locke before he got sick he mentioned to me that their was an album recorded with edan so if we're lucky maybe one day they will put it out. i think he has at least one solo lp that might drop too and hopefully some dumbtron. i was lucky enough to get to work with him on this track (also featuring pastense of backwoodz fame). P handled the production.
